How to remove a background

  1. Choose your photo (JPG, PNG, WebP or iPhone HEIC).
  2. The tool automatically selects the subject in the middle of the photo. If that is not right, switch to Choose object and tap what you want.
  3. Choose the background: transparent, white or any colour.
  4. Press Download PNG or Download JPG.

Where it helps

  • Listings and online shops: put products on white so your listings look consistent.
  • CV and profile photos: turn a messy room into a plain colour. For official photos with exact sizes, use the passport photo tool.
  • Design and slides: drop the transparent PNG into slides, invitations or stickers.

Frequently asked questions

Is my photo uploaded to a server?

No. The AI model that does the cut-out is downloaded to your browser and your photo is processed on your device. The model downloads once (about 6 MB) and then works offline too.

It picked the wrong thing. What do I do?

Switch to “Choose object” and tap what you want to keep. The selection is the part that is not darkened. To keep several parts (for example two people), tick “Add more parts” and tap each one.

What is the best setting for product photos?

Set the background to “White” and tick “Crop tight around the object”. Marketplaces usually want a white background with the product filling the frame. If it must be square, use the Instagram 1:1 size in the resize image tool afterwards.

How well does it handle fine edges like hair?

Edges come out clean on plain, simple backgrounds. On very busy backgrounds and with fine hair, edges can stay a little soft. For the best result, use photos where the subject stands out clearly from the background.

Does the quality drop?

No. The result is made at the original photo's resolution. Transparent backgrounds download as PNG, coloured backgrounds as JPG.
